Analilia Mejia Releases “An Economy for Everyone” Policy Platform, Calls for Universal Healthcare and Childcare

Congressional candidate who won $15 minimum wage releases plan to un-rig the economy by taxing billionaires, breaking up monopolies, and making Big Tech pay for their energy use

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Joined by parents and caregivers, congressional candidate Analilia Mejia unveiled her economic platform Tuesday morning outside of Park Wood Diner in Maplewood.

Mejia, who led successful campaigns for New Jersey’s $15 minimum wage and universal paid sick days, released a ten-point plan to un-rig the rules and build an economy that works for everyone.

“Families are working harder than ever and have less to show for it. Meanwhile, billionaires and corporations are rigging the rules, buying politicians, and leaving the rest of us to pick up the pieces,” said Analilia Mejia. “The whole system is rigged and we need to make it work for working people.”

The platform includes guaranteeing paid sick leave for every worker, taxing billionaires to fund universal healthcare and childcare, and breaking up monopolies that drive up prices while suppressing wages.

Mejia called for raising the minimum wage and making the first $40,000 of income tax-free, blocking private equity firms from buying up housing stock, holding Big Tech accountable for energy costs driven by massive AI data centers, restoring federal funding for the Gateway Tunnel that Trump froze, and passing Medicare for All.

The daughter of Colombian and Dominican immigrants, Mejia watched her family’s life change when her mom joined a union. She’s spent the last 25 years organizing workers and winning policy fights, leading the New Jersey Working Families Party and serving as the Deputy Director of the Women’s Bureau in the Biden administration Department of Labor.

Mejia is running in the February 5th special primary for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th congressional district.
