Progressive activist and labor leader taking steps to join NJ-11 special election

The national political director of Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign might enter the race for Mike Sherrill’s congressional seat in New Jersey’s 11th district.
Analilia Mejia, a top progressive activist and former director of New Jersey Working Families, is nearing a decision on whether to join the already crowded field in a Democratic primary that will likely be held during the last week of January or the first week of February.
Baraka announces for Mejia
Progressive activist Analilia Mejia hasn’t publicly announced she’s running for Congress in the 11th District. Someone else just did it for her.
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka brought Mejia on stage at his New Jersey League of Municipalities party at the Borgata in Atlantic City Wednesday night.
“She’s running for Congress, y’all,” Baraka told the crowd before introducing Mejia.
